Overview : 

The scientific name:  Solanum melongena

Eggplant is species in the nightshade family Solanaceae. Eggplant name is called in US, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.  It is called the ‘Aubergine’ plant in the UK, Ireland, Quebec and most of mainland western Europe. ‘Brinjal’ name is called in South Asia, Singapore, Malaysia and South Africa. The Brinjal is a very important vegetable and is called the brinjal vegetable in India. Indian eggplants are generally purple in color and round which is also known as baby eggplants or small eggplants. It is a type of fruit that is used as a vegetable.

The plant is about 40 to 150 cm long. The brinjal plant will bear fruit 3-4 months after planting. The plant can be growing in the home garden.  The brinjal flowers are white to pink. It has five petals. Generally, the brinjal color of the fruits is green,  purple, white brinjal or Eggplants. Sometimes it is also seen the black beauty eggplants. The fruit is long tubular. Inside the fruit are many soft seeds. Eggplants provide fiber and a variety of nutrients. It has the properties of a low-calorie vegetable.

The largest eggplants producer in the United States is Florida, New Jersey, and California. Eggplant is also grown in Mexico, China, Italy, Turkey, Egypt and Japan. Although eggplant is available all year round, it is in the highest eggplant season from July to October.
